Welcome to Peace4Kids!
Peace4Kids Inc., a nonprofit organization, received its designation to operate a J-1 Visa Exchange Program from the U.S. Department of State in 2004. With a goal to offer a high quality Program to all participants in the safest environment possible, P4K is identified each year as a reputable youth exchange Program by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel.
From its first year of operation, Peace4Kids has placed students with loving, volunteer host families in communities throughout the United States. By limiting the number of students we accept on our Program each year, we are able to meet our goal. P4K accepts only those students who can demonstrate academic interest and achievement, exemplary character, adaptability, curiosity, and a good command of the English language.
The Peace4Kids Difference
Officially know as the Mutual Education and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961, the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961 was assembled by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright and enacted by the 87th United States Congress on September 21, 1961. Its purpose is stated in the Preamble:
… “to enable the Government of the United States to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchange; to strengthen the ties which unite us with other nations by demonstrating the educational and cultural contributions being made toward a peaceful and more fruitful life for people throughout the world; to promote international cooperation for educational and cultural advancement; and thus to assist in the development of friendly, sympathetic, and peaceful relations between the United States and the other countries of the world.”The mission of Peace4Kids is to focus on these original foundations of foreign exchange by Promoting Education And Cultural Enrichment.
By bringing the child of one nation and the family of another nation together, Peace4Kids is fostering the concept of peace through understanding.
If you are interested in different cultures and other countries but don’t have the time or resources to travel, then set an extra place at your table, prepare a bed, and have lots of love to share with a student from a foreign country.
How It Works
Foreign high school students ages 15 to 18 are screened for academic standards, maturity, and English ability by our Foreign Partners in countries like Bolivia, Brazil, China, Columbia, Ecuador, Germany, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Poland, Spain and Thailand. Their applications are then sent to the P4K Corporate Office for review and final approval.
Once accepted into the P4K Program, our carefully selected Community Supervisors located throughout the United States secure a space for each student in a public high school. Then they help volunteer host families choose students that fit well with their families.
You can build a relationship that will last a lifetime. Will your family be the next to welcome a foreign student into your life? Join us in Promoting Education And Cultural Enrichment!
Designated by the United States Department of State, and identified as a reputable youth exchange program by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET), Peace4Kids has been granted a full listing on the 2009-2010 CSIET Advisory List.
